Here’s where military veterans can get COVID-19 vaccine this holiday weekend

The West Palm Beach VA Medical Center Military will be providing the COVID-19 vaccine this weekend to veterans who either are deemed essential workers or who are age 75 and older.

Veterans can get their vaccine on a walk-in basis this Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend at the Medical Center, 7305 N. Military Trail in West Palm Beach. Bring a photo ID and discharge paperwork. Vaccines are free.

Eligible veterans who are employed as firefighters, police officers, corrections officers, food and agricultural workers, U.S. Postal Service workers, manufacturing workers, grocery store workers, public transit workers, and those who work in the educational sector such as teachers, support staff, and day care workers are eligible.

Veterans must bring proof of employment.

Veteran seniors age 75 and older are also eligible for the walk-up vaccines and must have photo ID and discharge records as well.

The vaccines will be given from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.Jan 16 and 17; and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.Jan. 18. There will be 1,000 doses available each day.

In December, select Veteran Administration clinics around the country, including the William “Bill” Kling VA in Sunrise and Miami, received vaccines for its senior population who are already registered for services with the VA. Those vaccines are by appointment only.

Essential frontline workers who are receiving care at the Miami VA will also soon become eligible “as supply allows.” Officials can’t estimate how many people qualify since “that number is unknown as we do not capture that information in their medical record,” said agency spokeswoman Mary Kay Rutan on Friday.
