Smoke reported at mental health center

Apr. 14—ALTON — Firefighters were called to the Alton Mental Health Center early Thursday for the report of smoke.

At 6:50 a.m. ThursdayAlton firefighters responded to the dietary building at Alton Mental Health Center, 4500 College Ave., for the a report of smoke in the building.

When firefighters arrived the evacuated employees were outside. Light smoke and a smell of electrical burning led firefighters to the basement where they found a burned up belt on a compressor.

Exhaust fans were used to clear the smoke and smell from the basement. No injuries were reported.
