5K run/walk raises money for homeless veterans, JROTC cadets

Stuart News - 3/5/2018

The Treasure Coast Chapter of Military Officers Association of America offers congratulations to the Cobra Battalion from Fort Pierce Central High School for its first-place finish in the association's 5K run/walk on Feb. 3.

The race took place in Tradition at the intersection of Southwest Village Parkway and Southwest Discovery Way.

Congratulations also go to the second-place winners, Treasure Coast High School, and third-place finishers, Jensen Beach High School.

These schools, as well as the other high schools in Martin and St. Lucie counties, will be recognized March 22 at a cadet recognition dinner.

This 5K run/walk raised money to fund high school JROTC programs and aid the homeless veterans in Martin and St. Lucie counties.

A big thank you also goes out to all who attended the Jan. 9 auction that also raised money for these causes.

The funds from the auction, as well as the money from Recovery Sports Grill's "Dining for Dollars" will help bring materials that have been lost due to restricted and cut back funding to the JROTC programs, as well as provide personal hygiene packages, clothes, and food to homeless veterans.

The Treasure Coast Chapter of MOAA always welcomes retired, former, and currently serving officers to join the organization. For details, contact chapter President Bobbie Williams at 540-429-2057 or email at answerthecall4u@gmail.com.

Anyone who would like to donate clothing or personal hygiene items needed by homeless veterans, contact Sally Clemmer at sallydayne777@ gmail.com.
