Brookshire's teams up with CCVF to honor veterans

Jun. 12--Cedar Creek Veterans Foundation has announced that Brookshire Grocery Co. has joined with the Cedar Creek Veterans Foundation to celebrate America July 4 by bringing special offers to East Texas customers in support of East Texas Veterans.

Lyn Thomas, The President of Cedar Creek Veterans Foundation stated:

Making this event even more special will be the attendance of two World War II Veterans who will be on hand to talk to the public. CCVF is humbled to host Col. Brookshire's Food Stores and Super 1 Foods stores in Tyler will be offering a FREE Kid's ticket to The Magnificent 7 Warbird Expo, July 4 -- 7, at the Historic Aviation Memorial Museum at Tyler Pounds Airport. Each Free Kid's ticket may be redeemed at the event with a paid adult ticket purchased at the event. You may pick up Free Kid's ticket(s) at any of the 11 Tyler-area Brookshire's or Super 1 Foods stores from June 12 -- July 6, 2019 while supplies last. There will only be 250 tickets at each store so visit your neighborhood Brookshire's or Super 1 Foods store beginning June 12 so you won't miss out on the Free Kid's tickets.

The long weekend kicks off at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 4, with the arrival of rare WWII warbirds roaring into Tyler. Nicknamed The Magnificent 7 Warbird Expo for the weekend event, the aircraft arriving at Tyler Pounds Regional will be led by Texas Raiders -- the famed B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bomber. Of the 12,731 B-17's built across the US, only nine are currently flying -- and Texas Raiders bristles with authentic machine guns and period-specific equipment. Joining her will be the mighty Marine Corps B-25 gunship and bomber Devil Dog, the famous T-6 Texan Ace in the Hole, the ferocious A-26 attack aircraft, Night Mission and others. All aircraft are notable for their historic importance and level of restoration, and together offer a seldom seen view into America's aviation history. All of these spectacular aircraft will be also be performing in the Thunder Over Cedar Creek Lake Air Show on July 6 which is held close to The Pinnacle Club.

Tours of the aircraft will be available to the public as well as opportunities to fly in them. Beginning on July 4 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the public can visit the aircraft and take on-board tours that include commentary from crew members. Admission to the event is $15.00 for adults and $5.00 for children 10 and under. Active duty service men and women may tour for free with their current military ID. Attendees who want the ultimate living history flight experience may make a reservation now for one of the limited number of 25-minute flights on any of the aircraft. Additionally, five Cedar Creek Lake Area Brookshire'sFood Stores (Athens, Kaufman, Mabank, Malakoff and Seven Points) will be supporting East Texas veterans and Thunder Over Cedar Creek Lake Air Show by offering shoppers an opportunity to make a $5.00 donation to Cedar Creek Veteran Foundation in exchange for a $5 off coupon on their next shopping trip of $25 or more purchase. This donation opportunity is from June 19 to July 6 and the redeemable coupon of $5.00 expires 7-20-2019/limit one coupon per transaction.

The 14th annual Thunder Over Cedar Creek Lake Air Show will be held on July 6, at The Pinnacle Club, Cedar Creek Lake. The popular air show kicks off at approximately 6p.m. with 25 aircraft currently scheduled to fly in the annual show including parachute jumpers, warbirds, the 1954 Grumman Albatross ZEUS, a UH-IH Huey helicopter and performances by the MiG 17's with afterburners roaring at twilight and many more.

In prior years it has been estimated over 40,000 people have watched the air show from shore, docks and boats, and families from all over the region schedule their 4th of July activities around Thunder Over Cedar Creek Lake Air Show, creating lifetime memories. Thunder Over Cedar Creek Lake Air Show is the largest of five fundraisers hosted by the CCVF, and all proceeds go to assist veterans in and around the East Texas area and beyond. CCVF has donated over $240,000 to veterans' charities since its inception in late 2009.

This year, the CCVF has introduced a new way to donate for those watching from shore, docks and boats while enjoying the air show. CCVF donates all net proceeds from its fundraising events to veterans assisted by Fisher House, Hope For The Warriors and Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, each of which has a four-star rating on Charity Navigator.
