Sound Stories is a language tutorial program designed for use by children with cognitive or learning disabilities. The program offers 30 different storybooks with listening and spelling activities for each letter of the alphabet, plus the diagraphs sh, ch, th, and wh. All text is clearly narrated and highlighted word-by-word to provide modeled reading. Webster the spider serves as an animated guide and each book is followed by two interactive spelling activities to help reinforce knowlege. Skills taught include identifying letter sounds, recognizing initial letters, developing alphabetical awareness, and reading and spelling words.Narrated help is available on every screen, allowing users to work in dependently. The program can be customized for individual users when teachers select targeted letters and activities and then view each child's progress on a record chart. COMPATIBILITY: The CD-ROM offers versions for use on IBM and compatible computers and Macintosh computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: The IBM and compatible version requires a 486 33 megaHertz or faster processor, Windows 3.1 or higher, 8 megabytes (MB) RAM, 2X speed or faster CD-ROM drive, sound card, and SVGA monitor. The Macintosh version requires an LC475 or better processor, 8 MB RAM, 2X speed or faster CD-ROM drive, and a 640 X 480, 256-color monitor.
