The Braille Star 40 is a refreshable braille display designed for use by individuals who are blind or have low vision. This unit can function both as a braille computer display terminal and as a portable braille notetaker. With Braille Star's Scratchpad feature, users can take notes while the device is connected to a computer, or download a file from the computer or the Internet and read, edit, and save changes to it when the Braille Star is disconnected. The Scratchpad can store up to four megabytes (MB) of data, or approximately 4,000 pages. Braille Star has an eight-key braille keypad, a 40-cell braille display, and two "triple-action" navigation keys. It connects to home, school, or office computers through USB or serial ports. It has a top tray that slides out to support a computer keyboard or a laptop. Braille Star comes with a standard QWERTY keyboard to allow for easy data entry into the Scratchpad, and a backpack/shoulder bag. COMPATIBILITY: For use with IBM and compatible computers. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Windows 98/2000/ME/XP, Linux, or DOS. POWER: Uses four batteries for up to 20 hours of independent use. DIMENSIONS (HxLxW): 1 x 13.5 x 13.2 inches; the slider is extendable to 13.4 inches. WEIGHT: 3.08 pounds. WARRANTY: Two years.
