DO IT YOURSELF ENTRY --- PURPOSE: To provide a means for individuals with arthritis, spinal cord injury, or upper extremity or mobility disabilities to turn light wall switches on and off. Included in a chapter titled "Housekeeping & Getting Around," this article provides detailed instructions and illustrations for creating a simple extension for light switches. A small hole is drilled in the end of the light switch and a corresponding hole is drilled in the end of an acrylic rod or wooden dowel. A thin wire is formed into a loop, with the top of the loop fed through the hole in the switch and the other part of the loop through the hole in the rod or dowel. A small, lightweight ball or ornament can be attached to the bottom of the rod for ease in grasping.
