DO IT YOURSELF PURPOSE: To provide powered wheelchair users with protection from water and road grime. These fenders are designed for use on 10 x 3 inch rear drive wheels are originally intended for use on go-carts and mini bikes. An existing screw that secured the wheelchair shroud is used to secure the fender and existing holes designed to enable the length of the wheelbase to be adjusted are used for the screws. If the rear of the fender is wider than the front lip where it mounts, the side of the fender can be rolled to prevent the width of the chair from being extended. To roll the fender, make relief cuts using a hack saw on the side of the fender to be rolled. Next, hammer the edge in a vise until it resembles a flat edge. Check frequently to see if and when the fender is narrower than the wheel when mounted. If the wheelchair has a removable power pack, ensure that the fenders do not interfere with removal when mounted. SKILLS: Metal working and assembly. MATERIALS: Two fenders. TOOLS: Vise, hammer, and a hack saw. TITLE: Fenders. WEB SITE: http://www.wheelchairmodifications.org.
