The WanderGuard Departure Alert System is a wandering patient system designed to alert attendants to the location of a person with cognitive disabilities or Alzheimer's disease that wanders through monitored exit doors. Wristband trigger is worn by person having wandering problem, about the size of a standard wristwatch, 1.1875 by 1.1875 inches by 0.4375 inch. Electronics and battery are housed inside the sealed trigger mechanism, water tight to allow bathing. Battery lasts about 3 months, when it runs down trigger is discarded and replaced. A loud beeper sounds when a protected door is open and a trigger is within 36 inches of the door. There are four types of door sensors available, for standard single doors, large single doors, double doors and elevator doors. Sensors are simple to install, operate on 100 V AC, can be easily moved and reinstalled on other doors. Trigger is attached to person's wrist with an extra strength hospital ID band, difficult to remove without scissors.
