The PageBot for Kindle DX is a switch interface for the Amazon Kindle eBook reader, designed for use by individuals with neurological disabilities, spinal cord injury, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy, multiple sclerosis, stroke, arthritis, or repetitive strain injury. This switch interface works with all models of Amazon’s Kindle DX, including both of the original white models. It enable individuals who cannot hold the Kindle or press its buttons to read electronic books and other long form documents independently. The PageBot combines a secure and adjustable mount, dual integrated actuators for the Kindle "Next Page" and "Previous Page" buttons, and a built-in intelligent drive circuit that can directly interface to a wide variety of adaptive switches. Mechanical adaptive switches with 3.5-millimeter microphone-style connectors can be plugged in directly. Dual switches can interface with a single stereo cable. The interface is also compatible with a wide range of adaptive switches from other assistive technology suppliers. In addition, a USB host interface allows the Kindle DX to be operated from the buttons of a wired or wireless USB mouse. A Keep Awake mode with an automatic timer can optionally prevent the Kindle from entering sleep mode after a period of inactivity, eliminating the need to manipulate the Kindle power switch after a pause in reading. The interface enables switch access for all of the Kindle's features, including the Amazon Whispernet wireless antenna, the stereo headphone jack, the Kindle's battery recharge port, and all buttons and switches. The mount holds the Kindle in a foam-lined grip that helps prevent scratches and enhances resistance to mechanical shocks. After placement in the mount, the Kindle can be removed for non-switch use and later reinserted. The mount comes with an adjustable mechanical mounting arm that can be articulated in 4 degrees of freedom. The mounting arm includes an integrated adjustable clamp that supports hard-mounting to table tops, shelves, or cylindrical rods up to 36 millimeters in diameter. Also included is a standard threaded insert for use with tripods or other special mounting hardware. POWER: Uses the standard Kindle power adapter or an optional rechargeable USB battery pack.
