Medcottage

The MEDCottage is a prefabricated house designed for use by senior or individuals with physical disabilities. This portable house is a freestanding unit designed to be placed adjacent to a caregiver's or family member’s house. It provides 288 square feet of living space, and it allows the occupant to be monitored by the family or caregiver in the main house. The MEDCottage gives the user privacy and independence. It features sleeping, bathing, cooking and living areas. Water, electricity, and waste disposal systems are connected to the main house’s utility systems. Other features include laundry machines; a handicapped accessible bathroom; and a kitchen with a small refrigerator, microwave, and medication dispenser. The interior features technology that monitors vital signs, filters the air for contaminants, and communicates with the outside world via video and cell phone text. Sensors alert caregivers to problems, and medication reminders are provided using computers. Technology integrated into the MEDCottage also provides entertainment options including music, literature and movies. DIMENSIONS (WxL): 12 x 24 feet.
