The Pedz system is a pediatric wandering patient system designed for use by children with cognitive, behavioral or emotional disabilities in hospitals and other facilities. The system includes a radio transmitter tag that is worn by the child. The tamper-resistant tag has a cut-resistant band so any malicious attempt to remove the tag results in an alarm; however, the most curious child can play with the tag without triggering a nuisance alarm. The tag can be removed when the child needs to leave the restricted area for medical procedures or other reasons and then re-attached using the same band. When a child returns and the tag is re-attached, it is automatically re-enrolled in the system. Users can be allowed to pass through some exits without causing an alarm. Access can be tailored to each child based on their age and risk factors, or restricted based on the time of day. Each child can personalize the tag with skins or stickers to encourage them to wear the tag.
