Taking care of 'mind, body and spirit': Kaiser Permanente unveils new mental health offices in Hesperia

Daily Press - 6/7/2018

June 07--HESPERIA -- Kaiser Permanente officials showed off the new Mental Health Medical Office during an official grand opening celebration of the facility located on Main Street Wednesday.

During the opening ceremony, Mayor Pro Tem Bill Holland thanked Kaiser officials for choosing Hesperia to open the facility that provides a broad range of mental health services, including individual/group therapy, psychiatry, addiction, medicine and case management.

Kaiser's new 8,000-square-foot facility, which is located next to Wood Grill Buffet in the Topaz Marketplace shopping center, is staffed with 10 licensed therapists and two virtual medical staff doctors.

Dressed in company blue T-shirts, a Kaiser team greeted visitors, provided tours of the multi-room facility, welcomed visitors to play a game of cornhole, offered resources and answered questions.

"These are the first very mental health offices that we've opened up in the High Desert since Kaiser Permanente first came to the area," said Larry Oliver, the chief administration officer for the medical group. "This community has significant needs and we feel that these types of services are fundamental to the care of our members."

The plan to open a mental health facility to serve its nearly 90,000 members in the High Desert had been on Kaiser's radar for the last five years, according to Oliver, who added that Kaiser's priority is to look out for the "mind, body and spirit" of each one of its members.

"First off, Kaiser did a great job in re-purposing this space, which used to house the Fresh & Easy supermarket," Holland told the Daily Press. "It's a fabulous reuse of a building that we don't want to see go vacant."

Holland remarked that as a Kaiser member of some 40 years, he is excited to see the "state-of-the-art" mental health facility coming to Hesperia, adding that the move is very "timely" for members across the High Desert.

The Kaiser Mental Health Medical Offices are located at 14135 Main St. Ste. 310 in Hesperia. For more information visit www.kp.org.

The new mental health facility is located just east of a 10-acre parcel that Kaiser purchased last year for the future construction of a 100,000-square-foot medical office.

The new facility will be built on Escondido Avenue, just south of Main Street and west of the Walmart Supercenter.

Kaiser would not comment regarding the timeline for construction of the medical office or services available at the new facility when it opens near the Walmart Supercenter.

Kaiser continues to operate the High Desert Medical Offices on Park Avenue in Victorville. Some available services for members in Victorville include: Advice nurse, injections, laboratory, mammograms, pediatrics, physical therapy, pharmacy, treatment nurse, classes, radiology/diagnostic imaging, retinal photos, urgent care; and family and internal medicine.

Considered the largest managed care organization in the U.S., Kaiser serves nearly 12 million members in eight states and Washington D.C. Kaiser also serves some 596,000 members in San Bernardino County.
